Ward 13, Chimanimani – 14 September 2026
In a milestone moment marking the fruits of community-driven climate resilience, farmers from Ward 13 in Chimanimani gathered at Nyahode Clinic (Machongwe) and Kwirire Primary School (Kwirire) to officially witness their first fish harvest from two climate centers established by Development Aid from People to People (DAPP).
DAPP established two climate centers in Ward 13 in 2025, supporting 175 farmers at Nyahode Clinic (Machongwe) and 250 farmers at Kwirire Primary School (Kwirire), against a programming target of 250 farmers per center and a total goal of 1,000 farmers across four wards. Each center features a 10×10 metre fish pond, 10×10 metre nursery shade, chicken project, garden, beekeeping, water tank and a solar-powered borehole which is now supporting the community by supplying safe and clean water to the school and community. The centers serve as training grounds where farmers learn climate-friendly and sustainable farming practices and replicate them at home, with pupils also learning in schools.
On 14 September 2026, farmers proudly witnessed their first official fish harvest, a moment they described as thrilling despite ongoing water shortages. At Machongwe, farmers demonstrated their ownership by purchasing materials and fencing their climate center garden. Officials present included representatives from the Chimanimani RDC, the DDC’s office, Ministry of Youth, MoPSE, Agritex, and the Ministry of Health.
The DDC’s office applauded DAPP and the community for their work and officially witnessed the harvest, urging continued partnership to reduce GBV, divorce, and other harmful practices. With the climate centers now in community hands, farmers are positioned as gatekeepers of the initiative, which is advancing Vision 2030 under NDS II by equipping communities with best climate-friendly and sustainable farming practices.
